Woodman Barrett Obituary

Woodman Douglas Barrett, “Doug”, 77, of Richburg, SC and formerly of Fort Mill, SC peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 17th, 2021 at Piedmont Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 31st, 1943 in Rock Hill, SC son of the late Woodman “Woody” and Cazie Barrett of Fort Mill, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Brother - Bill Barrett of Fort Mill, SC, Brother – Dr. James Barrett of Lake Junaluska, NC, Sister - Elaine Cornwell of Rock Hill, SC.

Mr. Barrett served honorably in The United States Navy during both the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam era conflict where he specialized in F4 Naval Aircraft avionics and flight controls. He was a true American patriot, and he loved his country.

After his service to our Country, Doug went to work at the Hoechst Celanese plant in Rock Hill where he retired after 38 years of service in electrical maintenance and engineering. Prior to and after his retirement, he enjoyed educating and mentoring students as an industrial maintenance instructor for York Technical College at various times for the last 40 years. He also taught skilled trades at many other private trade schools, companies, and organizations after retirement.

Doug was an elder member of First Baptist Church of Richburg where he served as Sr. Class Sunday School Teacher and former church Deacon. Doug loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with friends and family. Although in later years he could not go as much as he wanted, he was still good for a deer hunting or fishing story at any time. He also loved to tinker in his shop on farm equipment and other “treasures” and share his experience with his two Grand Daughters Jenna and Madison Barrett who are the greatest pride of his life.

Most important to Doug was his family and he will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend.

Doug leaves a lasting and huge legacy to be cherished by his survivors, His wife of 57 years Mrs. Jimmie Ann Barrett of Richburg, SC, His son Kevin Barrett and wife Patricia Barrett of Richburg, SC, His Son Reid Barrett of Rock Hill, SC, his two Grand Daughters Jenna Barrett and Madison Barrett of Richburg, SC, His sisters Sandra Barrett of Columbia, SC, Kathy Greene of Fort Mill, SC, Mary Jo Hall of Clover, SC, Jane Burrell of Clover, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of life will be held 2:00pm Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Richburg.
