Phyllis Knubel Obituary

Phyllis F. Knubel, “Phyl”, 78, of York, SC and formerly of Rockaway, NY, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Piedmont Medical Center in the presence of her loving husband and parish minister. She was born September 18, 1942 in Dover, NJ, daughter of the late Dominic and Dolly Francis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Kabis.

Following a successful career as an Executive Secretary, she demonstrated her love for animals and had devoted a great deal of time and resources working with animal rescue groups in NY and SC. Through this past-time, she adopted several cats and her dog, Libby, which brought her great joy and peace.

She loved to travel both abroad and domestically; her most memorable trip was to Kenya in 2001. Her return to the United States was scheduled for September 11, 2001. She and her husband were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, Canada. There they were taken to a local home for the duration of that crisis and has since remained close friends with the lovely family that hosted them.

Most important to her was her family and she will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, stepmother, grandmother, and friend.

She leaves fond and happy memories that will be cherished by her survivors: husband of 37 years, James Knubel, stepson Adam R. Knubel and wife, Kristina H. Knubel, of Laurel, MD, stepdaughter, Melissa C. Eliadis of Stevensville, MD, her sister Margaret “Peggy” Francis of Dover, NJ, and grandsons, Alex, Colson and Liam.

A Celebration of life service will be held by the family at a later date.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to EMT’s, physicians and staff, her beloved church family and friends for their unwavering compassionate and supportive care that was provided.  Your kindness will never be forgotten.
