Mary Papp Obituary

Indian Land, S.C. – Mary P. Papp, age 74, of Indian Land, S.C., died quietly at home on Thursday, November 18, 2021, after a 32-year battle with cancer. Born in Barberton, Ohio, on November 13, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Sandors Farkas, and was a 1990 graduate of The University of Akron, achieving a B.A. degree in psychology. She had retired after 12 years of service from the Public Library of Charlotte Mecklenburg County as a library assistant.

Mary loved spending time with her grandsons and sharing their pictures and stories with family and friends, family holiday celebrations, visiting the Carolina beaches, shopping, reading books, taking road trips, social lunches with friends, home decorating and interior design, being very spiritual, and candlelight church services on Christmas Eve. She shared a close bond with her twin sister, often buying the same gifts and cards for each other, and often wearing the same clothes to the same events without prior coordination.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, John B. Farkas, and sister-in-law, Janet Farkas (Swartz), of Calabash, N.C., and brother-in-law, Nicholas J. Stevens, of Akron, Ohio. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Frank P. Papp, son Kenneth R. Papp of Fairbanks, Alaska, son Gary M. Papp of El Paso, Texas, daughter-in-law Kristin Dean Papp of Fairbanks, daughter-in-law Christina Alba Papp of El Paso, grandsons Nolan Gene Papp and Anders Dean Papp of Fairbanks, and grandson Fox Alba Papp of El Paso, and twin sister Marcella Stevens (Farkas), of Akron, Ohio. She leaves two sisters-in-law, Ethel Teleposky of Edison, N.J., and Karen Fitzpatrick of La Noka Harbor, N.J. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A private ceremony was held with the immediate family on November 19, 2021, and a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life Ceremony for family and friends will be held on a date to be selected in the spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
