Marian Eighmy Obituary


Marian Louise Rockwood Eighmy, 92, of Fort Mill, SC and formerly of Shelby, NC and Erie, PA peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 11, 2020 with her loving husband by her side. She was born October 11, 1928 in Waterford, PA, daughter of the late Charles Albert Rockwood and Bernice Allen Rockwood.

She was passionate about teaching and had a career spanning nearly 50 years. She became a teacher in 1946 at the age of 17 under a post-WWII emergency certificate, adored by her students as the young red-headed teacher who was caring but tough, teaching in a small one-roomed K-12 country school located just outside of Centerville, PA while attending Edinboro State Teachers College where she would later earn a degree in Education with a minor in Art Education. After several years of teaching and coaching the girls basketball team in Waterford, PA, she attended Houghton College for a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She went on to teach art and primary grades at several elementary schools in Millcreek Township, PA and finished her career at James Love Elementary School in Shelby, NC.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby, NC and was active in the WMU. She was a loving and devoted wife, a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a sweet friend to everyone she met.

She leaves a lasting legacy of faith in Jesus Christ to be cherished by her survivors, her husband of 65 years, Eugene C. Eighmy; sons, Eugene A. Eighmy and wife Kimberly of Birmingham, AL, Larry C. Eighmy and wife Von of Waxhaw, NC; grandchildren Megan Eighmy East and her husband Andrew of Lynchburg, VA, Gillian Eighmy and her fiancé Cole Logsdon of Mobile, AL, and Chase Eighmy, Seth Eighmy and Reid Eighmy of Waxhaw, NC; her sister, Anabel McLaughlin and husband Jim of Summerville, SC; her brother Charles Rockwood and wife Joan of Union City, PA; nieces Rebecca McLaughlin Shaw (deceased), Sandra McLaughlin Maylock of Simpsonville, SC, Susan McLaughlin of Charleston, SC, Cindy Rockwood Taylor of Santa Maria, CA; nephews Greg and Charles Rockwood of Union City, PA,

A celebration of life service will be held by the family at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home in Rock Hill, SC

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the hospice nurses, physicians, and the staff at Legacy Heights Senior Living Community for their unwavering compassion and care.
