John Gregory Damron

John Gregory Damron, 56, of Edgemoor, SC and formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 8, 2021. He was born on May 14, 1964 in Washington, DC, son of Melford Raymond Damron, Jr. and the late Dorothy Anderson Damron.

Greg was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School and attended East Carolina University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After college, he continued working with his dad at Damron Steel Corp. before joining Auto-Chlor/Diversey Lever where he became branch manager. Ultimately, he was able to turn his passion of collecting guns and knives into his own business.

He was a member of Edgemoor ARP Church and actively involved in Ducks Unlimited, Greenco Hunting Club, and the Charlotte Gun Club. He loved to read and was a lifelong learner. In his free time, Greg enjoyed restoring his ‘47 Willis Jeep and was a great cook, a skill he picked up from watching his grandmother when he was young.

While attending college at ECU, he met and later married Maribeth. After 30 years of marriage and raising their two sons, they were enjoying working from home together in the past months. Greg loved his boys and was incredibly proud of who they have become and their accomplishments.  He was looking forward to seeing Hunter graduate from USC and Will complete his PhD from Yale.

Greg brought laughter everywhere he went and loved playing practical jokes. He really knew how to be a friend and valued his relationships with both friends and family. He was loved by so many people and will truly be missed. Greg was definitely one of a kind!

Greg is survived by his wife, Maribeth Williams Damron of Edgemoor, SC; sons, William Steadson Damron of New Haven, CT and Hunter Jarrett Damron of Columbia, SC; father, Melford Raymond Damron, Jr. of Rock Hill, SC; sister, Ann Damron Stegall of Charlotte, NC; nephew, Triston Wilder Stegall of New York, NY; and niece, Elizabeth Morgan Stegall of Charlotte, NC; as well as Maribeth’s family whom he claimed as his own.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitation and service will be private. The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed via Edgemoor ARP on Saturday, January 16 at 2:00pm (www.youtube.com/channel/UCbja_EL8FjxtSZG0-qr3Q5A).
