Harold Dean Kent, Jr. died Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Westminster Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill, SC. Harold, age 100, was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 9, 1921. He was the son of Harold Dean Kent, Sr., of Burlington, Vermont and Elizabeth Jackson Kent of Hertford, NC. Harold grew up in Ashville, NC and graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School in 1939. Following graduation, he attended Biltmore Junior College in Asheville. Before joining the army, he worked as a draftsman at the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company in Baltimore, Maryland. From 1943 to 1945, he served in a rifle company with the 3rd Infantry Division in Italy, France and Germany and was wounded twice. After the war, he attended the School of Architecture at NC State University in Raleigh, NC and graduated in 1949. Harold practiced Architecture for many years. In1949 Harold married Sarah Elizabeth Reid in Asheville, NC. They lived in Charlotte for twenty years before moving to Rock Hill, SC in 1969.                                                                                                                                                                                 

He is survived by his son Harold Dean Kent, III (Betty Ann), three grandchildren, Phillip Harold Kent of Rock Hill, Sarah Louise Bettis Williams (Blake) of Columbia, SC and Andrew Kent Bettis of Charleston, SC, one great grandson, Bettis Campbell Williams of Columbia, SC, a son in law, Vance J. Bettis of Columbia, SC, a sister-in-law, Ann Reid Glenn of Conover, NC, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his wife, Sarah in 2013, his daughter Sarah Rebecca Kent Bettis in 1989, and his sister Harriet in 2014.He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. A committal service will be held at 2pm on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the church which is located at 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209. The church requires that attendees wear masks. If desired, memorial gifts can be made to the church.
